First of all, I’d like to thank our wonderful host – TechShop. They provided us with our own private room which they equipped with everything we needed for our workshop. What a cool place they have!
Our Instructor, Rich Best obviously spent a whole lot of time preparing for this workshop and he brought a ton of his own stuff in with him so he could show, explain and discuss. Many thanks to rich for his amazing effort.
My favorite aspect was that when someone asked about a specific technique (such as an Arkansas Stone) Rick pulled one out of his bag of tricks, talked about it, demonstrated it, and we discussed the pros and cons of it. This happened with countless tools, techniques, and accessories though out the entire workshop.
We started with a lecture on how to create a sharp edge, from a flat back all the way through to the final polish. A detailed discussion about how to do it, why we need to do it and common mistakes made while doing it. Very insightful and Rich was fully prepared with hand-outs.
After we all understood the theory, we go to try it for ourselves with our own tools. We set up stations of different techniques and everyone got sharpen whatever they had brought with them to the workshop.
Snacks (popcorn) was even provide by our host – TechShop.
In short a very successful workshop - Thanks Rich!
